Here is a closer look at the Hardie 2" roof clearance detail. Hardie requires a 2" clearance between the siding and roof. Color matched flashing is used to create a better appearance. They also require a kickout flashing to divert the water from the roof into the gutter. Failing to install this flashing will cause staining on the siding below. Many siding companies don't correctly install these details. This can void your Hardie warranty. Consult your siding contractor to see if they use the correct flashing and clearance details.

This image shows the opposite corner. The trim adds additional contrast to the Gray Slate siding. When choosing your siding color, be sure to test the color in the sun and the shade. Notice how the siding appears lighter when exposed to the sun. The Colorplus finish is baked on by Hardie and is resistant to fading. They offer many styles and colors to choose from. Fiber cement siding has become a popular choice in Potomac, MD.
